Associate | Regulation, Competition, Disputes | DT Economics

About DT Economics

We are an economic consultancy focused on regulation, competition and expert witness services. We advise on complex regulatory and commercial matters. Our clients range from established blue-chip companies, network operators, regulators and competition authorities, to leading law and accountancy firms. We differ from our competitors in a number of ways:

  • we sit on decision-making panels on some of the world’s most respected competition and sectoral regulators;

  • our team includes former regulatory experts within telecoms operators and a former global leader of the economics practice of a Big 4 consultancy;

  • we specialise in the communications and technology sectors, but have experience in other regulated industries as well;

  • we have a flexible structure in delivering projects, balancing a core/permanent team with a large international network of associates that collaborate with us on a project-by-project basis; and

  • we draw on a wide variety of expertise across economics, competition, regulation, strategy, finance, accounting, modelling, law and engineering to serve our clients.

The role

We are looking to recruit an Associate consultant to join our core team based in central London.

By leveraging your expertise and delivering impactful insights, you will play a crucial role in helping DT Economics' clients navigate complex regulatory and competition issues and make informed strategic decisions.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • conducting in-depth economic and financial analysis to support clients in regulated industries, eg in the context of modelling market trends, forecasting demand, and evaluating the impact of regulatory changes;

  • summarising research and data to prepare high-quality reports and presentations for senior client stakeholders;

  • collaborating with cross-functional teams of economists, engineers and industry experts to provide comprehensive solutions;

  • advising clients on navigating complex issues in the areas of economic regulation, competition and strategy;

  • participating in regulatory/legal proceedings and supporting the broader team in expert witness cases; and

  • supporting the practice on business and practice development activities.

Experience and requirements for the position

Our expectations are that you have:

  • obtained at least a 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in economics, finance, maths or a related quantitative discipline.

A strong academic background in microeconomics, regulatory economics and competition economics is preferred, but not necessary. Previous work experience in economic consulting or at a regulator is also a plus but not required for this position.

The ideal candidate would also have:

  • excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities;

  • exceptional written and oral communications skills;

  • excellent organisational and time management skills and the ability to plan and prioritise a varied workload;

  • a desire to learn and the ability to grasp and succinctly summarise complex issues;

  • a flexible, pragmatic, proactive, ‘can do’ approach to work, strong work ethic and ability to ‘think on your feet’;

  • an ability to work effectively individually, and as an integral part of a busy team on high-profile client engagements;

  • an ability to build strong relationships within DT Economics, our network of associates and client organisations; and

  • an interest in competition and/or regulatory matters in communications and digital markets.

We provide advice to clients around the world where English is a second language. There would be an additional benefit in having fluency in additional languages such as Spanish, German, Arabic or French.

What we offer

We are committed to investing and supporting you in your professional development, as well as the well-being of you and your families - physically, emotionally, and financially.

As part of this role we offer:

  • the opportunity to work and have direct exposure within our core team to some of the most reputable experts in the industry;

  • exposure to cutting-edge issues in economic regulation and competition;

  • exposure to very high-profile communications and technology clients;

  • an agile and flexible work environment and team structure;

  • a wider network of associates and industry professionals that collaborate with us on a project-by-project basis. Access to this network is an important tool for unlocking your own subject matter expertise and sector awareness;

  • continuous learning and individual skills development through on-the-job learning, self-guided professional development courses and formal training, subject to your interests and the needs of the business. Upon joining you'll also be assigned a dedicated coach who will mentor, guide and support you through regular coaching sessions and serve as an advocate for your professional growth; and

  • possibility to travel, subject to business needs. Some of the areas we tend to travel to include Europe, MENA and the APAC regions.

Additional benefits include:

  • a competitive base salary, performance-based bonus and pension contribution scheme;

  • office location in central London with flexible/hybrid working arrangements; and

  • parental leave.
